5/6/2023 0 Comments Gloomhaven scoundrel guideThe biggest problem with this group is that the Brute is kind of out of place - there's no need for a melee tank/damage-dealer with two other ranged characters, the Cragheart would just be strictly better. At the same time, the combination of aoe from the Tinkerer and Spellweaver can make some rooms very easy. The party lacked damage and while the Spellweaver can provide a lot of it in bursts, there will be downtime that can cause some problems. Spellweaver - The Spellweaver provides less consistent damage than the Scoundrel or Mindthief and this is a bit of a problem. Verdict: much the same as the above, only very slightly worse. Overall I would recommend the Scoundrel combo slightly higher but this one is also quite good. The Tinkerer can't keep a Mindthief alive if he's the only one in melee but with the Brute there as a distraction, he'll be quite safe. Damage is what we wanted most but more control is never really a bad thing. The Mindthief provides a bit less damage but a bit more control than the Scoundrel. Mindthief - The Mindthief works for this party in much the same way as the Scoundrel, providing a lot of melee damage with the space provided by the Brute and Tinkerer. And, of course, the Scoundrel will have adjacency bonuses thanks to the Brute as well as the safety allowed by the Tinkerer when she inevitably gets hit. The Scoundrel brings pure damage and not much else but that's exactly what you want with the two characters you already have. Scoundrel - The Scoundrel pairs excellently with the Brute and is the perfect compliment to the Brute-Tinkerer composition. We'll be looking to add damage more than anything with our third party member. I would say that this is a very forgiving start to a 3p party composition - the lack of damage will make it harder to succeed at higher difficulties, but having a tanky character and healing should help less experienced players to get adjusted to the game with a very safe group. Tinkerer and Brute gives the party excellent stability but is definitely lacking in damage. And you can certainly create a party that works well with the Tinkerer. Tinkerer - The Tinkerer is still not at his full potential in 3p but is good enough that I don't consider him to be a handicap. I'm posting it now with just the perspective of one of the six done to get feedback on the format which will allow me to fix anything people don't like before proceeding to the other 5 classes, so please let me know. I'll start with one of the six, list how good the possible 5 choices for a party member are, and then from there the 4 remaining choices for the last party member. The format here will be a bit different this time. So just remember that this guide is meant to be a tool to help people who want help, not to tell you that you shouldn't play whatever combo you enjoy playing. But just because your party of X, Y, and Z was able to get through some number of scenarios doesn't mean it can't be better and/or worse than other party compositions. Also, it is all kind of relative - the truth is that you can get by on Normal with almost any 3p party because it's much harder to make an unplayable 3p party than 2p party (which is one of the reasons I hesitated to make this guide). That being said, there are a very significant number of possible combinations here and I absolutely haven't played with all of them, thus some of my advice will be purely based on the conclusions I would draw from what I have experienced. I have played primarily 2p but I've got around 60 scenarios at 3p under my belt so I'm pretty confident with what works and what doesn't at 3p. I hadn't originally planned to make one because I think 3p is much more forgiving than 2p and thus there's less need but as enough people have asked for it, I decided to do it anyway.Ī few disclaimers: this guide is obviously based on my own experience and is certainly not definitive. I've been asked a few times to make a guide for 3p parties to help people playing at that number looking for party composition advice.
